The times we are living in are tough. We cannot meet our loved ones the way we did. Everyone is missing the hangouts, the cosy family evenings, and the human touch by hugs and handshakes.
Many of us are finding it hard to live in fear and distance. Thus the rise in depression and anxiety cases is on the rise. Another factor adding to the number of mental health problems is the number of surviving corona patients who are ending up in depression as Covid-19 blues.
A little friend might help
Recently my aunt suffered from Covid-19. Fortunately, she was able to fight back and beat Covid in the war. However, she felt the weakness and fatigue even weeks after. Gradually the daily started noticing signs of depression and anxiety after the quarantine period. She would not want to meet people, go out or have people over her place.
Our best ever idea
We made a decision to help her by bringing in a beautiful puppy for her. This was a life-changing decision. My aunt returned to her life. She started enjoying the company of this little furry pet. She would spend hours with her playing, making her eat, and taking care of her.
Was the answer so simple?
Bella(the doggy) is such a cute, lively, and fun-loving puppy. She welcomes every family member when they enter the door. She would jump, show her tricks, touch, and play. She is the new family member who keeps everyone engaged and feels in touch.
My aunt found a new life
What a transformation! We saw the depressed lady turning into a fun-loving and lively woman. She started going out and socializing with other pet parents. Honestly, Bella brought her to life and she started visiting people and having them over.
Though we knew pets help improve the mood. But what we witnessed is healing and surviving with the help of pets. This is evidence of the power of connecting with creatures. Pets are very effective for mood swings and essential mental health.
While humans have their prejudices and reservations, pets come with an unbiased inclination towards love and connection. Love begets love and care is the mantra with pets.
