Sometimes, it’s the little ones that tend to have big attitudes, just like this tiny chihuahua named Mervin. He was rescued by ASPCA in New York City and was fostered by Joey Teixeira. ASPCA is an animal organization that rescues abused animals.
If there is one thing that Mervin absolutely loves, it’s yogurt. As soon as he hears the fridge open, Melvin would come rushing to the front and center. However, there’s one thing he loves more than yogurt, and it’s his dad.
Mervin is completely possessive towards his fur dad. He would let Joey interact with his partner or his other dogs, but he needs to give Mervin a lot more attention and kisses than anyone else.
When Joey first saw Mervin, he was working in a shelter. Mervin was brought in as a stray dog, and was in really bad condition. He would bark aggressively at anyone who tried to come near him. Despite Mervin’s cranky attitude, Joey thought he was an extraordinary dog and decided to foster him.
Joey brought him home as a foster, but it soon became apparent that Mervin belonged with Joey and his partner. When Mervin got home, he immediately claimed his space. Surprisingly, he fit right away with his new siblings and declared ownership of Joey.
However, after a year, Joey and Mervin’s social media followers noticed a little black growth on his eyelids. Joey brought him to the vet only to find out that it was a malignant melanoma, a type of skin cancer. Joey was unsure and a bit scared, there was no definite prognosis, but Mervin was up for the challenge, and so was Joey.
After months of treatment, Mervin was finally cancer-free. Despite his tiny body, he’s been through a lot in a short period of time and still managed to be his sassy but happy self. Joey had realizations being with Mervin. We may not be the center of everything, but these tiny creatures who rely on us and loves us unconditionally, are enough to make us feel important and loved.
