When this dog named Roland was two years old, he was already up for adoption at the Montgomery County Animal Shelter. The dog’s adoption photo shows a chubby little pup clad in a blue bandana and a cute smile. At that time, Roland weighed around 40lbs, which is a little too heavy for his size.
The photo circulated on different social media platforms in 2019 and caught the hearts of many dog lovers worldwide. After the photo went viral, the dog got adopted. This development made the volunteers at the shelter very happy because Roland finally has a good life.
However, after Roland’s adoption, things got complicated for the dog. The family who adopted Roland faced rough patches ahead of them. Although loyal dogs would often stay with their humans during rough times, this was not Roland’s case. Roland’s family became homeless, so they had no other choice but to leave the dog begging on the street.
At first, the family did not want to surrender the dog because they wanted to take good care of the dog. But life is sometimes challenging because the family could not even give the dog decent food to consume. When they decided to surrender the dog to the animal shelter, it was already too late because the dog is visibly thin and malnourished.
When Jamie’s Animal Rescue came into the picture, they said that Roland is no longer recognizable the way he was. This broke the volunteers’ heart from the animal shelter, so they took the dog back under their custody. The shelter’s founder, Jamie Smith, rehomed the dog again and vowed to bring the jolliness in Robert.
According to Jamie, it breaks his heart to see Roland in that shape. However, he has no other choice but to accept what happened to the dog and improve the dog’s welfare moving forward.
