Many people believe that all dogs and cats are sworn enemies. But the truth is, the canine and feline species can become friends too. They could even stand as surrogate parents for the other.
Daisy meets her kittens
Daisy, the beagle, lives in the UK with her owner, Jane Whitton. While Jane loves Daisy so much, she’s also wanted to adopt a kitten. One day, she made arrangements to meet with a farmer who has a ginger tabby cat looking for a new home.
But when Jane got to the farm, she saw a black kitten all alone at the back. Jane’s heart reached out to the poor kitten and decided to adopt it too. She named the ginger tabby Dexter and the black one Fletcher.
Jane wasn’t sure how Daisy would react to the new family members. But to her surprise, Daisy was smitten by the two adorable baby felines. This sweet beagle bonded with the baby kitties right away and took in the role of a surrogate mom.
Best mama, ever!
Daisy was probably overwhelmed with so much love for the kittens that she started lactating. Dexter and Fletcher couldn’t be more grateful for the milk. Daisy gives them the nourishment so the two feline babies would grow strong and healthy.
Apart from nursing her adopted babies, Daisy also watches over them all the time. When one of the other dogs start running, Daisy gets into defensive mode and places herself in the middle. She also sniffs them from time to time when they are asleep to make sure her babies feel fine.
Daisy has taken the role of a mom to heart. Although she’s not Dexter and Fletcher’s real mom, she’s the best mama they got. And oh, the kittens can safely nurse from a dog, and vice versa. It’s a mysterious work of nature, but it’s been working out fine for this odd yet adorable family.
